Positive Psychology from IKIGAI

IKIGAI Gets Clearer with Positive Psychology

Psychology became the science that 'fixes' people's mental abnormalities.
Tim Tamashiro's 'How to IKIGAI' states Lessons for finding happiness and living your Life's purpose. In Section 2 - Science of Ikigai, Chapter Five- Ikigai gets clearer with positive psychology.

Till now all psychology is revolving around mental illness, in which it's true that psychology provides paths to help people deal with mental illness.  But now new area of psychology opens up opportunities for all people to use research and science to increase mental health.

Positive Psychology is described as 'the scientific study of what makes life worth living.'
IKIGAI falls squarely within the realm of positive Psychology.

Positive psychology and ikigai are ways to assist you to be more. when you study and implement ikigai and positive psychology, it makes you feel more optimistic about life. you feel like you're accomplishing something special.

IKIGAI,Psychology

The Science of Well being

Dr. Laurie Santos demonstrates through dozens of studies and research about key aspects of mental wellness in his popular class 'The science of well being.
through her casual and relatable approaches to teaching psychology, Dr. Santos demonstrates that money, materialistic things, jobs, and grades do not make us happy, they have little to no significant impact on our overall well-being.

Dr. Santos Demonstrates that studies show you can improve your well-being through regular efforts at eight things:-
  1. Acts of kindness
  2. Exercise
  3. Social connection
  4. Meditation
  5. Time affluence
  6. good sleep
  7. Gratitude
  8. Goalsetting
Acts of kindness, exercise, and meditation don't pay the bills. but well-being is not based on financial measurement or rewards. it's based on what makes life worth living. if money is where your mind automatically goes when it comes to happiness then you may be stuck in a static feedback loop.

Yes, the hours you put into your job every day to pay the bills. You can implement acts of kindness, exercise, social connection, meditation ( a few minutes at a time), gratitude, and goal-setting into your job. That leaves time affluence and good sleep for you to do outside of your job.

Time Affluence=Real wealth

Your personal choice between the value of money vs. the value of time is one of the biggest contributors to happiness.
Hal Hershfield and other researchers asked thousands of people what they valued more, time or money. The time believers' overall happiness level (4.89 out of 5) was much higher than the money believers' (3.53 out of 5).

The why of mindfulness

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we're doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what's going on around us. Mindful meditation rewires your brain to understand each movement as it happens in a clearer way.
IKIGAI needs mindfulness.

To live your life's purpose, you must remember to notice what you love to do and what you're good at. You must notice what your IKIGAI provides to the world. You must notice the rewards you receive from your IKIGAI.

Carpediem!

Carpe diem!

Carpe diem is a Latin phrase that means “seize the day”. It encourages people to focus on the present, appreciates the value of every moment in life, and avoid postponing things unnecessarily because every life eventually comes to an end.
Carpe Diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.
  • To implement the concept of ‘carpe diem’ and successfully seize the day, you should focus on the present moment and take advantage of it as much as possible, while keeping in mind the fact that life is short and bound to end eventually, so you shouldn’t postpone any actions that you want to undertake, unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

The origin and history of carpe diem

The term 'Carpediem' is first used by Roman poet Horace to express the idea that one should enjoy life while one can.
Seize the day, place in tomorrow as little trust as you can!
From Horace’s “Odes” (Book I, Poem 11), circa 23 BCE.

The concept of carpe diem has also famously appeared in the 1989 film ‘Dead Poets Society, where the character of English teacher John Keating encourages his students to avoid waiting and to instead actively seize the day and strive to achieve what they are capable of.

“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, and engineering, are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, and love, are what we stay alive for. To quote Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”

― N.H. Kleinbaum, Dead Poets Society

The psychology of carpe diem

  • Talking to someone who you’re interested in developing a relationship with now, instead of continually telling yourself that you’ll do it tomorrow.
  • Going to an event that you’re interested in now, instead of repeatedly promising yourself that you’ll do it later.
  • Focus on what is happening at the present moment.
  • Awareness of the uniqueness and value of every moment in life.

In some cases, people use the term ‘carpe diem’ in other ways beyond the ones outlined in this article, such as to refer to the tendency to discount and devalue the future.

The concept of carpe diem is also associated with the concept of flow, which is a state of mind in which a person is fully immersed in the activity that they are engaging in.

The relationship between carpe diem and mindfulness

  • Carpe diem is related to the concept of mindfulness, which is a mindset that involves focusing on present thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and accepting them in a non-judgmental manner. However, despite the similarity between these two psychological constructs, they are considered to be distinct, and research suggests that they are not significantly correlated with each other.
  • Specifically, in research on the topic, mindfulness is generally viewed as a state of awareness, that has to do primarily with the form of our actions, meaning that it influences how we perform those actions. Conversely, carpe diem is generally viewed as a time perspective, that has to do primarily with the content of our actions, meaning that it influences which actions we perform.
  • Accordingly, it’s possible for someone to be mindful of the present, without adopting a carpe diem approach, by paying attention to the present moment without believing in its significance or being convinced of the need to use it in the best way possible. Similarly, it’s possible for someone to have a carpe diem approach without being mindful, by being convinced of the importance of using the present moment wisely, but at the same time not developing a mindful, non-judgmental awareness of it.
  • However, despite the fact that being mindful and having a carpe diem approach aren’t necessarily connected with each other, it’s possible to be both mindful and have a ‘carpe diem’ approach at the same time, just as it’s possible to not be mindful or carpe diem oriented at all.

Note-  It’s not always possible to do things you’re interested in immediately, and sometimes it’s necessary and reasonable for you to wait until later.

Such delays don’t conflict with the concept of ‘carpe diem’, since the proper implementation of this concept should take into account reasonable constraints in life. Rather, what does conflict with this concept are unnecessary delays that can be avoided, especially when they occur because of your focus on the past or the future instead of the present, or when they occur because you lack appreciation for the limited time that you have.

THINK AND GROW RICH | NAPOLEON HILL | BOOK SUMMARY

 THINK AND GROW RICH

BY NAPOLEON HILL

There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge

Think and grow rich is the state of mind. it exploits the strong desire and definite purpose into reality. despite the book's title, this book is not about how to increase your income and become rich. The object of this book is to help all who seek it, to learn the art of changing their minds from FAILURE CONSCIOUSNESS TO SUCCESS CONSCIOUSNESS

Think and grow rich (1937) is one of the best-selling books of all time. it examines the psychological power of thoughts and the brain in furthering your career for both monetary and personal satisfaction. enjoy the summary of this all-time self-help classic!

You are the master of your fate, the captain of your soul.

Think and grow rich is the combined wisdom from more than 500 of America's most successful individuals. their insights were then narrowed down into 13 principles and contributed to what hill refers to as the overall "Philosophy of Achievement".

Napoleon hill's 13 Principles of success presents a philosophy of achievement that is intended to be mulled over. this thinks and grow rich summary will look at each of the 13 principles in turn. they are as follows:

1. Desire

2. Faith

3. Auto-suggestion

4. Specialized knowledge

5. Imagination

6. Organized planning

7. Decision

8. Persistence

9. The power of the mastermind

10. Sex Transmutation

11. The Subconscious mind

12. The Brain'

13. The Sixth Sense

1. Desire

The starting point of all achievement

The Starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. keep this constantly in mind. weak desire brings weak result, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.

Napoleon Hill has six steps for turning your desire into reality

Our only limitation are those we set up in our minds.
While being able to visualize yourself as rich may seem challenging at first, it’s only those individuals who are “money conscious” that become successful. To be money conscious is to see yourself in possession of great wealth before you attain it. You will only become rich if you possess a deep desire for money, and you stop at nothing to get it.

2. Faith

Visualization of, and Belief in the attainment of desire

Through affirmations or repeated suggestions to the subconscious, you can develop the emotion of faith, which is necessary to transmit your desire into their physical or monetary equivalent.
The mind takes on the nature of the influences that guide it. A positive mind is more fertile to faith, and faith is the starting point for all success. The greatest factor holding you back from success? A lack of self-confidence. Hill suggests five-fold Think and Grow Rich affirmation exercise to repeat in writing and then learn by memory to increase your self-confidence

3. Auto- Suggestion

The medium for influencing the subconscious mind

Auto-suggestion refers to the use of self-directed communication and self-administered stimuli to channel thoughts from the conscious mind to the seat of the subconscious. Because the conscious mind often acts as a barrier to sensory impressions, auto-suggestion must be used to create thought patterns conducive to translating your desires into their physical equivalent.
Auto-suggestion is synonymous with self-suggestion. It’s the bridge between the conscious and the subconscious mind. Merely reading words aloud will have no impact. You have to attach emotion to the words. When reciting your affirmations, as laid out in the previous chapter, you must encourage your desire to consume yourself. Your subconscious will only act upon thoughts that are felt.

4. Specialized Knowledge

Personal experiences or observations

General knowledge, or that typically taught in schools, will not help you accumulate riches, nor will specialized knowledge on its own. Rather, you must learn how to organize and use knowledge after you acquire it. If you lack the specialized knowledge necessary to build your business or attain your goals, you can supplement your own knowledge with that of other individuals by forming a “Master Mind” group.

5. Imagination

The Workshop of the mind

The imagination is the unique faculty of humankind that shapes, forms, and gives action to desire. Hill distinguishes between two modes by which the imagination functions: the synthetic imagination, which does not create but rather arranges old concepts, ideas, or plans into new combinations; and the creative imagination, which, when stimulated by strong desire, picks up thought vibrations from other humans and from the ether, connects with Infinite Intelligence, and develops new ideas.

6. Organized planning

The crystallization of desire into action

In order to translate desire into its physical or monetary equivalent, you must form a definite, practical plan and put it into action. This chapter details how to build plans and ensure they are functioning to your advantage.

7. Decision

The Mastery of Procrastination

Procrastination and indecisiveness are major causes of failure. Men and women of great wealth, on the other hand, share in common the ability to reach definite decisions quickly and change their minds slowly. This chapter teaches you how not to be swayed by the opinions of others but instead to keep your own counsel (and that of your Master Mind group) so that you make firm, productive decisions that ensure your success.

8. Persistence

The sustained effort necessary to induce faith

Most people will throw in the towel at the first sign of opposition. However, willpower, combined with desire, is necessary to ensure that one’s objectives are reached. Hill provides four steps for cultivating the habit of persistence, your insurance against failure.

9. Power of the mastermind

The Driving Force

Individuals can attain and apply power through the formation of a Master Mind group, an alliance of individuals with different strengths and perspectives who coordinate their knowledge and efforts to attain a definite purpose. Master Mind groups bring both economic advantages (riches) as well as psychic benefits (a cosmic harmony that generates a “third mind,” or spiritual unit of energy operating at a higher frequency).

10. The Mystery of Sex Transmutation

Sex transmutation entails the channeling of carnal desires and their corresponding energies into other outlets than those that are purely physical—namely, creative ones. A correlative to this principle is the importance of selecting a compatible partner.

11. The Subconscious mind

The connecting link

Hill describes the subconscious mind as the intermediary between the finite mind of man and Infinite Intelligence that enables humans to tap into the forces of the Universal Mind. He emphasizes that it alone is the medium for translating mental impulses into their spiritual and physical equivalents.

12. The Brain

A Broadcasting and Receiving Station for thought

Hill writes, “Through the medium of the ether, in a fashion similar to that employed by the radio broadcasting principle, every human brain is capable of picking up vibrations of thought which are being released by other brains.” In this chapter, he explains the process by which the mind is stimulated by external vibrations and supplies a method for using emotions to increase the mind’s receptivity to these sensory stimuli.

13. The Sixth Sense

The Door to the temple of wisdom

The Sixth Sense refers to the faculty of the subconscious also termed the Creative Imagination by which humans, through no effort of their own, receive communications from Infinite Intelligence. Hill calls this principle the “apex” of his Law of Success philosophy, for it can be comprehended and applied only after mastering the first twelve principles.

In order to implement these thirteen success principles, you have to prepare your mind to receive the philosophy. The first step to prime your psyche is to study, analyze, and understand the three enemies you’ll have to defeat: indecision, doubt, and fear. This chapter outlines and explains the cure to the six basic fears that, although often hidden in the subconscious, hold humans back in their pursuit of riches: the fear of poverty, the fear of criticism, the fear of ill health, the fear of loss of love, the fear of old age, and the fear of death.

6 Steps to Turn Desires into Reality | Think and Grow Rich | Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill's 6 Steps to Turn Desires into Reality

Desire is the stating point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything. - Napoleon Hill

Think and Grow Rich is a life-transforming book. It changes the reader's thinking and behavior and gives the reader a push towards success. Wishing your desires will materialize will not bring you riches. To attain any goal, you must have a burning desire, combined with the belief you will possess it, backed by the definiteness of purpose—the firm knowledge of what one wants. Hill details six steps for turning your desires into reality.

1. Fix in your mind what exactly your desire is.

2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in the return for your desire.

3. Establish A definite date when you intend to process your desire.

4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire.

5. Write out a clear, concise statement of desire you intend to acquire.

6. Read your written statement aloud twice daily.

These steps are scrutinized and approved by Thomas A. Edison who gave his seal of approval on these steps not only to acquire riches but achieve any goal.

The Alchemist: The Fable about following your dream| Story

The Alchemist

A recurring dream troubles Santiago, a young and adventurous Andalusian shepherd. He has the dream every time he sleeps under a sycamore tree that grows out of the ruins of a church. During the dream, a child tells him to seek treasure at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids. Santiago consults a gypsy woman to interpret the dream, and to his surprise she tells him to go to Egypt. A strange, magical old man named Melchizedek, who claims to be the King of Salem, echoes the gypsy’s advice and tells Santiago that it is his Personal Legend to journey to the pyramids. Melchizedek convinces Santiago to sell his flock and set off to Tangier. When Santiago arrives in Tangier, a thief robs him, forcing him to find work with a local crystal merchant. The conservative and kindly merchant teaches Santiago several lessons, and Santiago encourages the merchant to take risks with his business. The risks pay off, and Santiago becomes a rich man in just a year.

Santiago decides to cash in his earnings and continue pursuing his Personal Legend: to find treasure at the pyramids. He joins a caravan crossing the Sahara desert toward Egypt and meets an Englishman who is studying to become an alchemist. He learns a lot from the Englishman during the journey. For one, he learns that the secret of alchemy is written on a stone called the Emerald Tablet. The ultimate creation of alchemy is the Master Work, which consists of a solid called the Philosophers Stone that can turn lead to gold, and a liquid called the Elixir of Life that can cure all ills. Santiago learns the Englishman is traveling with the caravan to the Saharan oasis of Al-Fayoum, where a powerful, 200-year-old alchemist resides. The Englishman plans to ask the alchemist the secret of his trade.

As it turns out, the caravan must make an extended stop in Al-Fayoum in order to avoid increasingly violent tribal wars taking place in the desert. There, Santiago falls in love with Fatima, who lives at the oasis. During a walk in the desert, Santiago witnesses an omen that portends an attack on the historically neutral oasis. He warns the tribal chieftains of the attack, and as a result, Al-Fayoum successfully defends itself against the assault. The alchemist gets word of Santiago’s vision and invites Santiago on a trip into the desert, during which he teaches Santiago about the importance of listening to his heart and pursuing his Personal Legend. He convinces Santiago to leave Fatima and the caravan for the time to finish his journey to the pyramids, and he offers to accompany Santiago on the next leg of his trip.

While the alchemist and Santiago continue through the desert, the alchemist shares much of his wisdom about the Soul of the World. They are mere days away from the pyramids when a tribe of Arab soldiers captures them. In exchange for his life and the life of Santiago, the alchemist hands over to the tribe all of Santiago’s money and tells the soldiers that Santiago is a powerful alchemist who will turn into wind within three days. Santiago feels alarmed because he has no idea how to turn into the wind, and over the next three days he contemplates the desert. On the third day, he communicates with the wind and the sun and coaxes them to help him create a tremendous sandstorm. He prays to the Hand That Wrote All, and at the height of the storm he disappears. He reappears on the other side of the camp, and the tribesmen, awed by the power of the storm and by Santiago’s ability, let him and the alchemist go free.

The alchemist continues to travel with Santiago as far as a Coptic monastery several hours from the pyramids. There, he demonstrates to Santiago his ability to turn lead into gold using the Philosopher’s Stone. He gives Santiago gold and sends him off. Santiago begins digging for the treasure at the foot of the pyramids, but two men accost him and beat him. When Santiago speaks to them about his dream vision, they decide he must have no money and let him live. Before leaving, one of the men tries to illustrate the worthlessness of dreams by telling Santiago about his own dream. It concerns a treasure buried in an abandoned church in Spain where a sycamore tree grows. The church is the same one in which Santiago had his original dream, and he finally understands where his treasure is. He returns to Spain to find a chest of jewels and gold buried under the tree, and plans to return with it to Al-Fayoum, where he will reunite with Fatima, who awaits him.

SELF-CONFIDENCE FORMULA| Think and Grow Rich| NAPOLEON HILL

SELF CONFIDENCE FORMULA          THINK AND GROW RICH BY NAPOLEON HILL

  • First. I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my definite purpose in life, therefore, I DEMAND of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.

  • Second. I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward physical action and gradually transform themselves into physical reality, Therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for 30 minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person that I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.

  • Third. I know through the theory of auto-suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it, therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of SELF CONFIDENCE.

  • Fourth. I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life, and I will never stop trying until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.

  • Fifth.  I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure unless built upon truth and justice, therefore, I will engage in no transaction that will not benefit all whom it affects. I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me because of my willingness to serve them. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism by developing a love for all humanity because I know that a negative attitude toward others never brings me success. I will cause others to believe in me because I will believe in them and in myself.

I will sign my name to this formula commit to memory and repeat it aloud once a day in full faith that it will gradually influence my thoughts and actions so I will become a self-reliant and successful person.
